Amira Elfeky is Taking Over Metalcore with EP “Surrender”

“Crucify me in your bed / Will you love me when I’m dead?”

Amira Elefky is a loud voice in the metalcore and hard rock scene— and she’s completely unapologetic about it. I’ve been following her since the release of “Everything I Do is For You” back in 2023, and it’s hard to believe how far she’s come in less than two years. Already, she’s toured with The Used and will be opening for Bring Me The Horizon on the first leg of their North American tour.

Surrender, her most recent body of work, defies gravity. As soon as track one, “Take Me Under,” begins, you are engulfed in her sound. She fills the room—in my case, my headphones— with a raw energy and fullness that is so refreshing to hear in a new voice. It’s not often people ascend into a scene with the perfection that’s she has already managed to achieve. “Take Me Under” is so atmospheric, the beginning of the song putting you directly where she wants you. It starts hard and heavy, transitioning into something a bit more tender, and then once again hits you like a sucker-punch with an insane breakdown towards the end.

The first single released for this EP was “Will You Love Me When I’m Dead,” another track that is incredibly cohesive in its buildup and comedown. I still remember when I first heard the song, it had me fooled! The opening is a series of gentle guitar chords, then BOOM— it drops into a hard-hitting construction. Her voice is so full of softness and whispers, yet the music accompanying it is very on the nose for metalcore. It gives Elfeky an almost ethereal, majestic aura.

Over the past few years, metalcore has seen a lot of electronic elements being incorporated, and “Forever Overdose” has just that. This song made me realize how incredible her and Maggie Lindemann would sound together on a song. In contrast to the last song, this track is far from whispery. Elfeky brings her voice to it’s full potential with belting and even screaming. The tracks on this EP have some of the coolest breakdowns I’ve heard in a while. “Hold / me / down… watch / me / drown…” At this part in the song, a really awesome switch happens. Things slow down, each word punctuated by a stop-and-start punch of guitar, leading into a jaw-dropping scream. Elfeky has proved that she has the range to stay afloat in this genre.

“Death of Me” switches the tone from aggressive and raw to something a little quieter, a little softer. This song has that radio-readiness that could really propel her into listenership from newer fans. “Loving you is suicide / Baby, you’re the death of me / I would die a thousand times / Just to have you next to me.” It’s extremely catchy and so much fun to belt at the top of your lungs. “Crossed The Line” takes you right back into something I’ve realized that she’s mastered— starting off soft, then immediately taking you into this crescendo of fullness and power. She belts out the chorus, “Have I crossed the line?”

Last but certainly not least is “Fatal Attraction,” a sensual and sexy track that fits its title well. This track truly lets her luxurious vocals shine, using more laid-back instrumentals. “When you treat me unholy / It made me fall for you slowly.” The song chronicles desire with gorgeous gothic lyricism, making it a seductive experience for the listener.

It’s so refreshing to see a talented, unapologetic woman begin to take over a male-dominated genre. I’m incredibly excited to see how much she grows over the course of her run with Bring Me The Horizon! Amira is a force to be reckoned with, and she’s on her way to International stardom.
