Arcy Drive brings sounds of past memories and old emotions to life with their debut album, “The Pit”
Arcy Drive just released their debut album, The Pit. According to the band, they took inspiration from their younger selves, old emotions, and memories. You can hear their inspirations throughout the album. The album features twelve songs, including one that was recorded as a voice memo.
Arcy Drive recently opened up for a Florida Indie Rock band, Flipturn. A few days after the tour ended, they announced their headline tour for their new album.
The first song on the album, “Under The Rug,” references the feeling of wanting to run away from something, but concluding later on that you have to deal with it. It brings out the emotions expressed throughout the rest of the album. “Louie”, the second track on the album, was originally written as an acoustic song but during a late night, they decided to spice it up and add in many different instruments and sounds. With lyrics like “cheers to you, and a cheers to me”, it represents good memories being made and reflecting on past experiences.
One of my favorites on the album, “Oak Tree (Daydream),” features a harmonica and brings feelings of relaxation. It expresses emotions of living in the present and being grateful for your surroundings. While the song displays emotions of gratitude, it also releases feelings about being excited about what the future has to offer. With the lyrics, “I’ll take my kid to cardinals and the yellow days” and “I’ll take him to the big oak tree”, the song brings the feeling of a daydream about life years down the road.
The band reflects on their touring life in the track, “The Itch." They speak about a specific experience that they had on tour in this track. It gives listeners a vibe of what touring can look like and the memories that are made while doing it. They talk about having a rained out show, a borrowed van, and a cheap hotel all while speaking about how happy they are on the road. The guitar throughout the song gives it a vibrant feeling and leaves listeners eager to hear more.
Their indie rock sound also mixes in the sounds of folk music throughout the album. It conveys so many different emotions from feelings of gratitude and happiness to feelings that you are afraid of. Overall, the band is bringing such a unique vibe to the music scene and they are bringing their experiences to life in this album in the most engaging way. If you aren’t listening to Arcy Drive, you are missing out!
