Singer-songwriter Daniel Seavey has officially stepped into the next chapter of his solo career. On January 27th, 2025, Seavey announced to fans that his debut album, Second Wind, will be released on March 7th. The album will feature eight new, unreleased tracks, with the title track “Second Wind” set to drop that Friday.

Seavey talked briefly about his vision for this album and he knew right away that he wanted this album to be 100% him. In an Instagram post he said, “this album is the first real step forward. It's a fresh start, a new beginning, it’s my second wind.” This album is a new step in the right direction for the singer-songwriter, as the chapter of his former boy band, Why Don’t We, comes to a close.

To open the album, the title track “Second Wind” brings a fun sound to new beginnings. Seavey sings about resilience and renewal with the metaphor “Second Wind” providing a sense of finding new strength. In verse two of the song Seavey says, “I feel a little more alive,”  which addresses the self-discovery of how pain can result in growing as a person. Seavey’s writing style takes a turn away from the traditional style, in the final chorus, “I think I found a second wind, I found the missing element,” which serves as a purpose to add a sense of emotional depth to close out the title track.

“The Older You Get” is a reflective song that dives into the complicated ideas of growing up and navigating with life changes. The song gives fans an insight to how stepping into new chapters of your life comes with a heavier understanding of the world. The song brings in many aspects of nostalgia, as Seavey highlights many things that are difficult to hold onto as you progress in life. This is one of the more vulnerable tracks on the album, with experiences that create a heavy and heartfelt song. The acoustic vibes leave fans feeling bittersweet.

Seavey’s creative songwriting and producing skills are captured in the following tracks, "Sleeping With The Lights On” and “Sunny Isles and Waves,” which are some of the more upbeat songs on this record. Seavey not only paints pictures in listeners' minds by using imagery and metaphors but adds a beat that will always be running in the back of your mind after that first listen. These catchy beats are not the only thing that grabs listeners, but it is that these are the songs that many fans have been asking Seavey to release since he first teased via social media over the last year.

The closing track of the album “Other People” is another heartfelt acoustic track setting the scene of a past relationship. The song conveys an emotional theme of how in a relationship it is okay to fade into two separate paths while also keeping the good memories in the rear view mirror. This track can also be interpreted as a way to figure out who you are in the midst of heartbreak and pain.

As Seavey steps into this new chapter of his career, this album shows such a defining moment of who he is and the challenges he has overcome with being not only an artist but a person. “Second Wind” truly is a new beginning for this singer-songwriter, and with the hit song “Gateway Drug” from the album already a standout on his artist Spotify page, Seavey has clearly made his mark in the industry.
