Indie-rock band Interpol are taking their “Antics” tour around the world this Fall to celebrate the album’s twentieth anniversary.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been twenty years since Interpol released “Antics”, a rudimentary album that shaped much of the band’s success. At the beginning of the summer, they announced that not only are they going on tour, but they’d playing the album in full at each show. The tour is not extensive in the U.S. unfortunately, but they are passing through Chicago, Austin, and Inglewood.
But, their international fans have many stops to look forward to, as the band will be hitting major cities such as Barcelona, Stockholm, Berlin, London, and many more.
Alongside bands such as The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem, and more, Interpol led a wave of post-punk in New York during the early 2000s. Their first album “Turn On The Bright Lights” has a legendary status-- It shaped a big portion of what we know to be indie rock or garage rock today. But, when their second album “Antics” was released in 2004, it was truly what brought the band or more mainstream level of success.
Track 2, “Evil”, is still considered a staple within the scene that they helped build. It’s the song you see on any 2000s indie playlist, the song that the most casual Interpol listener will be guaranteed to know. Many people speculated the album would just be a “part two” of sorts to their first album, and although it held much of the same sound, it was still a rebirth for the band.
“The record had leaked and some fans in Spain came up to us talking about it. Having people hear your unreleased record isn’t usually good news, but it was to me because we were on our second record and I could feel this building energy.” -Banks on “Antics”
This tour is going to be one that Interpol fans both new and old will remember forever. Inherently, their music sounds nostalgic, so that in combination with legitimate nostalgia that only comes with time with will be a transportative feeling for their fans. The tour will kick off in September and finish in November.
