Tiger La Flor is nostalgic in new song “AMERICAN DREAMS”

Tiger La Flor has all the makings of a modern pop girl in the making and on the rise. She has a nostalgic sound that sticks to the listener for days. If you are a fan of Sabrina Carpenter’s twangy pop style on Short & Sweet Deluxe then Tiger La Flor is made for you.

La Flor’s second EP, Drugstore Cowgirl, dawns a new song titled “AMERICAN DREAMS”. As the second song in the EP, it meshes perfectly with the four songs previously released as singles: “LASSO THE MOON”, “SAVE A HORSE, BREAK A HEART”, “MOST WANTED MAN”, and “HEAVEN IS A HARLEY”. In this country-pop revival song, there is a light airiness to the vocals, with a simple drum and guitar strum to keep the focus on the vocals. This song poses the question of what if in every sense of the question. There is a sense of nostalgia in the beginning for a relationship that has significantly changed due to leaving and chasing dreams. There is a longing for what a relationship could have been, but is based only on what was in the past.

The song sits perfectly transfixed in the second track. “LASSO THE MOON” is a sweet lovey-dovey song that sets the scene for that heart-wrenching gut punch of nostalgia that follows. “SAVE A HORSE, BREAK A HEART” feels like whiplash against these softer lyrics of love and nostalgia. The title plays on the old country song, “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” by Big & Rich. It discusses the tongue in cheek feeling of either getting revenge or understanding that you could be the problem in a relationship. “MOST WANTED MAN” has La Flor lusting over a man that she definitely knows is not right for her, but she likes him anyway. “HEAVEN IS A HARLEY” details the end of a relationship and the feeling of being free from a relationship that no longer serves you.

“AMERICAN DREAMS” fits into this sequence by transitioning from the light and airy love song “LASSO THE MOON” and the heavy and powerful message of something like “SAVE A HORSE, RIDE A COWBOY”. The naming of all of the songs also coincides beautifully with the title of the EP. Tying in this nostalgic cowgirl aesthetic.

Tiger La Flor has made a place for herself amongst some of the pop girls on the rise. She shares a sound with up and coming artists like Ally Salort and NIA NADURATA.
