A Match Made in Heaven: The Ivy & Lyncs Collab on New Single
The Ivy and Lyncs teamed up to create a dreamy indie long-distance anthem in “Don’t Fall Asleep”! The Ivy is a Tulsa-based band made up of Wyatt Clem and Shawn Abhari. They released their first album in 2024. Lyncs is from Lancaster, PA, and has released two EPs. These two bands have come together to create a synthy, indie single with soft vocals.
“Don’t Fall Asleep” tells the story of a couple in a long-distance relationship missing each other. As someone who was in a long-distance relationship for two years, it really resonated with me. They are really able to capture the feelings of being apart. “Can't help but check to see / How many miles are left to lose”
I remember having similar conversations with my partner, when we would have our late night calls. The visuals for the music video really do justice to the lyrics. They show Wyatt Clem & Jacequline Hynes separated in opposite setttings. Overall, the lyrics create a strong story of missing the one person you can’t be with currently.
Along with being lyrically well-crafted, musically the song is equally as impressive. Wyatt Clem from The Ivy and Jacequline Hynes from the Lyncs sound incredible together. Their vocals melt together in this soft synthy tune. The music perfectly fits the vibe with its use of synths, guitar, and bass. You can really tell there was careful intention to craft a well-made song.
The “Don’t Fall Asleep” music video combines the ideas in the lyrics with seeing the bands come together to perform. I loved the visual elements with Wyatt and Jacequline being in complete opposite sets. My favorite was Wyatt at the beach while Jacequline was in a snow scene. They intermittently cut the scenes with Wyatt and Jacequlie to the bands playing together. The music video perfectly shows the lyrics, but also how collaborative the bands are.
All in all, I really enjoyed the single and music video that went along with it. I had not heard of either band before, but consider me a fan now! If you’re a fan of indie artists like Clario, Dayglow, and The Wallows. Band collaborations can hit or miss but “Don’t Fall Asleep” is definitely a hit. Be sure to check them out on tour - they will be hitting up most major cities in March and April!
