Wallows is Back With ‘More’: A Look at Their Latest EP
Almost a year after the release of Model, Wallows has gifted fans their latest EP, More. The LA-based trio subtly teased its existence for weeks, embedding hints in plain sight within Instagram posts before officially announcing the seven-track collection. More stays true to their signature post-punk, indie, and alt-rock roots while incorporating sounds reminiscent of their previous eras.

What I admire the most about Wallows is their versatility and open approach to experimentation, which keeps their discography fresh. The EP kicks off with “Not Alone”, fusing retro instrumentals with acoustic guitar to create a dynamic contrast. This nostalgic influence carries into “Deep Dive”, my personal favorite. Dylan’s mellow vocals transition into a dreamy, synth-laced ‘80s track before reverting into a crisp rock-driven arrangement. I’m desperately hoping for a music video that plays into the ‘80s aesthetic, similar to the campy visuals of the “1980s Horror Film II” music video from 2018.
The previously released single “Coffin Change” highlights Braeden’s beloved strained vocals that add an edge to the track. The second verse features Cole’s harmonies, which is always a pleasant surprise. With its high energy and irresistible chorus, the track is a stand-out on the EP. “Your New Favorite Song”, a more subdued track compared to the rest, has gained traction on TikTok. The track opens with a saxophone introduction and weaves in a flute passage between the first and second verse.
“Hide It Away” is an introspective piece that explores the feeling of paranoia and uncertainty that accompanies growing old. The track's opening riff, which persists throughout, draws clear inspiration from The Strokes. “Learn to Love Again” leans most heavily into the band’s traditional style, feeling as though it could’ve come off of their 2022 album, Tell Me That It’s Over. The EP closes with “Deep Dive - Reprise”, which ditches the ‘80s production of the original in favor of an indie-rock rendition.
Additional dates have been added to the Model & More Tour as of January 10, with special guests Deb Never and Porches. In celebration of the EP’s release, Wallows has planned a "release week", running from March 28 to April 2. Today marked the premiere of the “Hide It Away” music video, while a scavenger hunt (details forthcoming) will take place from March 29 to April 2. Fans can also look forward to an Instagram Q&A on March 29 and a Stationhead listening party on April 1. Newly released merchandise and tickets for the extended tour can be found on their website.
